Overview
A Marriage Officer’s Licence authorises individuals to legally perform marriages in Trinidad and Tobago. This licence is issued to qualified persons affiliated with registered religious organisations.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must:
- Be a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago
- Be affiliated with a registered religious organisation
- Have theological training and ordination
Application Requirements
First-Time Applicants from an Organisation
- Letter from Organisation (on official letterhead) including:
- Names, positions, and specimen signatures of Board of Directors
- Size and history of the organisation
- Address of the place of worship
- Proof that the organisation:
- Owns or legally rents a building (certificate or lease required)
- Certificate and Articles of Incorporation
- Letter of Recommendation from Head of Organisation
- Certificate of Ordination & Proof of Theological Studies
- Proof of citizenship
- Two (2) forms of national identification
- Application fee: $50.00 (cash only)
Organisations with Existing Marriage Officers
Only the following are required:
- Letter of Recommendation
- Certificate of Ordination & Theological Studies
- Proof of citizenship
- Two forms of ID
- $50.00 application fee
Fees & Validity
- Licence issuance fee: $200.00
- Valid for 10 years
- Renewal fee: $100.00

- All documents must be original and copies submitted
- Organisational letters must be signed, stamped, and include contact details
